Above, Jack Robinson photographed Smithson for Vogue, November 1969. Steve Durtschi, Utah pilot and geologist, captured the Spiral Jetty in May 2011 in the roseate water that had drawn Robert Smithson to Rozel Point of The Great Salt Lake. It the first of 30 color illustrations; another 90 are b/w, many, like these two, published for the first time.
