“The Horizontal Book Club nominates Suzaan Boettger's revelatory artistic/personal biography Inside the Spiral: The Passions of Robert Smithson as Book of the Moment.” Barrett Watten, Detroit

Art historian, critic, lecturer

They got it:

A compelling psychobiography. . . The human figure who emerges from this book is far more complex than we have seen or read before. Monomaniacal, religious, sexually ambivalent – he was, in the words of more than one friend, ‘perverse’. [And] driven, in a way that has been rarely described before. Richard Williams, Burlington Magazine

Definitive. . . an indispensable book for the study, 'from the inside,' of a major American artistic personality. Joseph Masheck, Brooklyn Rail
